Yingli New Energy (Ningxia) Co Ltd has brought high technology and job opportunities to the rural county of Tongxin in the Ningxia Hui autonomous region.

It is the eighth production base of Yingli Energy (China) Co Ltd one of the leading players in the country’s photovoltaic industry, which was also the first Chinese brand to sponsor the World Cup in 2010.

The Tongxin production base was established in 2021 and started production in July 2022. Its output value reached 340 million yuan last year. In a production workshop of 13,000 square meters, workers are responsible for managing computers, computers are responsible for commanding robots, with robots being responsible for production.

It also creates about 200 job opportunities and over 80 percent of the employees are ethnic Hui people, according to the deputy general manager Zhang Xiaohui.

Zhang said that since the company settled in the Tongxin Clean Energy Industrial Park in Ningxia, they have been continuously supporting national unity and rural revitalization as well as enhancing employee skills through ongoing training and improving product quality control.

The first phase of the project focuses on P-type PERC cell technology, while the second phase closely follows the trend of industrial development, mainly producing Panda 3.0 components using cutting-edge N-type TOPCon cell technology in the industry. The new products will highly increase solar power production and the cost has been reduced to 0.8 yuan per kilowatt hour. All products are sold in Ningxia, and the affordable products will be used on the cowsheds and roofs of ordinary people’s homes.

Tongxin county is located in the core area of the arid zone in central Ningxia. Despite being dry with little rainfall and barren land, it has abundant opportunities to develop wind and solar resources. In recent years, this small county in northwest China has relied on its resource endowment, seized the chance of the national development of a new energy strategy, and rapidly developed new energy industry. It is reported that by the end of 2023, the installed capacity of new energy in Tongxin county had reached 4 million kilowatts, including 2.137 million kilowatts of photovoltaic power and 1.863 million kilowatts of wind power, accounting for 11.52 percent of the total installed capacity of new energy in the autonomous region. The annual power generation reached 5.134 billion kilowatt hours.
