Air China and China Southern Airlines took delivery of their first C919 aircraft on Wednesday at the Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) assembly center in Shanghai. This marks a significant milestone for the C919, China’s first domestically produced large passenger jet, as it prepares to enter service with multiple operators.

During the ceremony, COMAC presented both airlines with Aircraft Sales Certificates and commemorative keys. The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) also issued National Registration Certificates, Single Aircraft Airworthiness Certificates, and Radio Station Licenses for the new aircraft.

Air China’s C919 features a two-class configuration with 158 seats—8 in Business Class and 150 in Economy. In contrast, China Southern’s C919 is designed with a three-class layout, accommodating 164 passengers: 8 in Business Class, 18 in Premium Economy, and 138 in Economy. Both aircraft are equipped with customized cabin seating and personal charging ports to enhance passenger comfort.

To ensure a seamless introduction of the C919 into their fleets, Air China and China Southern Airlines collaborated closely with COMAC. This partnership covered various aspects such as aircraft selection, production supervision, crew training, and operational readiness.
