Charging and swapping station in Xinjiang empowers green economy

A charging and battery swapping post for electric heavy trucks in Wusu City of Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region is emerging as a new engine for new quality productive forces to the local economy.

Established in May and operated by State Grid Kuitun Power Supply Company, the post is the first of this kind in the area of Northern Tianshan Mountains in the autonomous region. Equipped with eight lots for battery swapping, two sets of 240 kWh fast charging piles and a 2500 kVA box type transformer, the post provides around-clock green refueling services taking about five minutes to swap a battery for a truck.

It is also equipped with an intelligent monitoring and management system with high automation and high requirements for power supply reliability.

Electric heavy trucks are becoming popular locally because of lower cost and higher efficiency. According to local drivers, it takes only one hour to charge a truck with a battery capacity of 350 kilowatts and a charging distance of 250 kilometers. Compared with traditional fuel vehicles, electric ones save an average of 1.2 yuan per kilometer.
