Power fuels night economy in Henan village

As night gradually falls, the nightlife in Xinghua village of Yiyang county in Henan province comes alive with music, laughter, and the bustling sounds of vendors — the “night economy” here is thriving.

“Xinghua village, formerly known as Shandi village, used to be an ordinary settlement at the foot of a mountain. Today, it is vibrant by day and radiant by night, attracting a steady stream of visitors. Our small mountain village has been revitalized,” says Zhou Jingwei, Party secretary of the village.

With the implementation of the rural revitalization strategy, the village’s cultural tourism, dining, and homestay industries have flourished. It has meticulously crafted the “Xinghua Night Economy”, featuring light shows, themed restaurants and unique camping experiences.

The rapid growth of these industries has led to a significant increase in electricity consumption. The escalating demand for electrical load has also placed higher requirements on the local power grid infrastructure. Consequently, electric power has become an essential guarantee for invigorating the village’s “night economy”.

To fully support the village’s burgeoning “night economy” tourism industry, the State Grid Yiyang County Power Supply Co has coordinated with the village government to address power needs and develop tailored power supply plans.

After on-site assessments, it was estimated that Xinghua village’s nighttime power load would reach 80 kilowatts. The existing power lines, with their smaller diameter, were insufficient to meet the current demands. To thoroughly resolve the power supply issues, the power company installed additional transformers, repositioned the power facilities, and upgraded over 1,200 meters of distribution lines, ensuring a reliable and uninterrupted power supply.

Modern aesthetic lighting adorns the corners of ancient Xinghua village, showcasing new charm and vitality as night falls, attracting even more visitors.

“Many people from nearby counties and cities choose to visit Xinghua village at night. The restaurants, shops, and homestays within the scenic area consume significant amounts of electricity. Therefore, we conduct regular nighttime inspections to promptly address any potential issues, ensuring everyone can safely enjoy the night scenery and unique charm of the ancient village,” said Zheng Shanlin, an employee at the State Grid Yiyang County Power Supply Co.
