Shandong tool maker eyes niche, new sector

“Opening the toolbox triggers an intelligent voice prompt that instructs children on safe usage,” a salesperson explained while showcasing a labor education toolset.

At first glance, the blue-and-yellow toolset appears similar to ordinary tools. However, a closer inspection reveals differences in material, weight, and grip design, tailored specifically for children.

“These are custom-made educational tools for students of different ages. They are designed to be functional, yet more engaging, lighter and safer,” said Teng Weibing, deputy party head of Weihai, Shandong province-based Maxpower Tool Group. The development of tools and equipment suitable for classroom use by students represents a new strategic direction for the company.

Maxpower is a key player in Shandong province’s green, low-carbon high-quality development projects for 2024. The company’s tools are widely used in industrial maintenance across sectors such as rail transportation, aerospace and heavy metallurgy, with over 7,000 product specifications exported to more than 100 countries and regions.

In 2024, 84 key projects focused on green, low-carbon and high-quality development, along with 31 major projects, will be established in various zones within Shandong, including Wendeng Nanhai New Area, an economic development zone, the western intelligent manufacturing industrial development service center, and two provincial-level comprehensive chemical industry parks.

“The power company has been very supportive, resolving electricity issues we encounter in production, allowing us to focus on manufacturing,” said an executive from Maxpower.

“Everything revolves around the projects,” said the State Grid Shandong Weihai Power Supply Co, the region’s power supplier. The company said it aligns its efforts with the long-term plans and electricity needs of local enterprises, understanding the power requirements for key projects from commencement through to production.

For example, it addresses electricity issues in real-time and integrates the power supply for key projects into future grid construction plans, which accelerates grid development, strengthens the grid framework, and continually injects new momentum into the realization of major projects, it said.
